September 23 - Des Moines Golf and Country Club will play host to some of the worlds top golfers at the 2017 Solheim CupDes Moines Golf and Country Club in Iowa will play host to the Solheim Cup in 2017, he Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced today.

The dates for the 15th staging of the biennial competition between the United States and Europe's top women golfers have yet to be finalised.

The North Course at Des Moines will provide the test for the competitors in four year's time following its successful hosting of the US Senior Open in 1999, won by Dave Eichelerger, which organisers say attracted over 252,000 spectators.

The 1966 Waterloo Open was the last time an LPGA event was staged in Iowa and the Des Moines club, which has two Pete Dye designed courses, will also host the Junior Solheim Cup alongside the main event in 2017.

"The support that the Des Moines community has shown for golf events in the area has been tremendous," said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan.

"Based on the incredible welcome that we've already seen from the city, state and local organisers, I have no doubt that the 2017 Solheim Cup is already on track to be the best event we've ever staged.

"In 2017, we're going to blow the standard out of the water of what a Solheim Cup should be.

"That's going to come from a course.

"That's going to come from a city.

"That's going to come from a state.

"Most importantly, that's going to come from a people that respect the game and respect the country."

The Americans will be hoping for a change of fortune in Iowa following their first ever loss to Europe on home soil in Colorado last month as Lisolette Neumann's team ran out emphatic 18-10 winners.

Europe will be looking to defend the title at the 2015 tournament which takes place at the St. Leon-Rot club outside Frankfurt in Germany, with the junior and senior competitions running from September 14 to 20.
