Eurosport has secured the rights to broadcast BBL coverageSeptember 23 - The British Basketball League (BBL) has named Eurosport as its new official broadcast partner for the forthcoming 2013-2014 season, taking over from former rights holders Sky Sports.

The nation's premier basketball league will now be shown on British Eurosport as coverage begins in early November with highlights of the previous week's fixture between Worcester Wolves and Plymouth Raiders.

The broadcaster will show 26 hour-long programmes over the course of the season dedicated to the pick of the action in the league, hosted by basketball expert Dan Routledge and a team of co-commentators.

"Our move to British Eurosport is about creating an appointment to view for the British basketball audience," said BBL commercial director David Leyden Dunbar.

"Moving to more regular scheduling throughout the season I've no doubt that we'll be able to translate a surge of interest in the sport, reflected in our participation numbers, into a passionate following for the new weekly show.

"Accessibility also played a major role in the decision making process and with British Eurosport available on Sky, Virgin and BT's new platform we're confident that we can build our audience through the season."

British Eurosport managing director David Kerr added that he is "very pleased to have secured the rights to the British Basketball League, which adds to our recent announcement of NFL Monday Night Football and the UEFA Youth League rights amongst others.

"We look forward to bringing the very best domestic basketball action to fans in the UK."

The new BBL season gets underway this weekend on Saturday, September 28.
