KFC is sponsoring the Asian Youth Para-Games in Kuala LumpurSeptember 16 - The Asian Youth Para-Games will be sponsored by KFC Malaysia after the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) secured a RM132,940 (£25,000/$40,000/€30,000) deal with the fast food brand for next month's event.

KFC Malaysia will be the Sport Partner for the Games - being held on October 26 until 30 - and will take up badminton as part of the "Adopt-a-sport" initiative, aimed at involving companies and sponsors in the promotion of Parasports and the event.

Badminton is among the 14 sports - nine more than at the last edition of the event in Tokyo in 2009 - to be contested at the Games, with the others being athletics, archery, boccia, swimming, table tennis, chess, powerlifting, goalball, ten-pin bowling, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, judo and sitting volleyball.

"KFC's participation as partner of the Games sets a good example of how a corporate entity and an NGO can work closely for a common cause, in this context, towards the development of persons with a disability," PCM President and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) board member Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin said.

He added that he hopes to continue the Adopt-a-sport programme beyond the conclusion of the Games "to create a better understanding of Parasport, its needs and requirements amongst corporate citizens".

The Asian Youth Para-Games are expected to attract more than 2,000 athletes from 41 nations, including China, Japan, Korea and Iran, while hosts Malaysia will be looking to secure medal in several sports such as athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball and archery.
