September 9 - The Bahrain Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission is targeting the development of a dedicated athletes' body for each of its national sports federations, it has been announced.
While chairing the body's first meeting, National Olympic Committee member and former Asian 200 metres champion Ruqaya Al-Ghasra asked that each sport name a representative that can keep in touch with the Athletes' Commission to contribute ideas, complaints and communicate the needs of the country's sportspeople.
The Committee, which also includes volleyball players Hassan Dahi and Mahmood Hassan, swimmer Omar Al Malki and cyclist Aqeel Abdulamir, went on to discuss the allocation of a budget for the body to carry out its work.
The proposals, which Al-Ghasra stressed she is keen to implement in order to serve the nation's athletes, will now be submitted to the Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretariat.
