Chad Le Clos has been named as a Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games ambassadorAugust 30 - Chad Le Clos, the South African swimmer who won Olympic gold at London 2012, has been unveiled as the latest ambassador for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics.

The announcement will see Le Clos, winner of five medals at the inaugural Summer Youth Olympics Games in Singapore in 2010, share his experience with the next generation of athletes gearing up for next year's event, which is due to take place in the Chinese city on August 16 until 28.

"The Youth Olympic Games were a huge stepping stone for me and helped me enormously in preparing for the pressures of my first Olympic Games in London," said the Olympic 200 metres butterfly champion.

"But more than the sport, the memories and friends that I made will last forever, and I'm excited to be part of the YOG experience once again."

Le Clos, who last month won world titles in the 100m and 200m butterfly in Barcelona, added that he is excited to follow in the footsteps of fellow swimmer of most decorated Olympian of all time Michael Phelps, who was a Youth Games ambassador for Singapore 2010.

"Michael was an idol of mine growing up, and he was an inspiration to me going into the Singapore 2010 YOG," he explained.

"To be that source of inspiration for a whole new generation of athletes preparing for Nanjing 2014 is truly an honour."

Le Clos now joins Russia's double Olympic pole-vault gold medallist Yelena Isinbayeva, who was named as a Nanjing 2014 ambassador in May this year.
