August 29 - Yana Kudryavtseva and Margarita Mamun secured a further three golds for Russia at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Kiev today as the pair tied in first place on clubs and Kudryavtseva added gold on ribbon.
Both Kudryavtseva, who took two silver medals on ball and hoop yesterday, and Mamun, winner of a gold and silver in the previous day's respective finals, scored the same in difficulty and execution to take the club world title with 18.366 points.
Ukraine's Alina Maksymenko excited the home crowd with her excellent routine to win the bronze - her first medal of these World Championships - with a score of 18.216.
Kudryavtseva prevailed once more to top the ribbon podium, which read as a who's who of the previous day's medal winners.
The Russian went into the final and set the bar high with a flawless routine that gave her 18.516 points - the highest score of the Championships so far.
Home athlete Ganna Rizatdinova, winner of the hoop gold medal the previous day, went through her routine without mistakes to take silver with a score of 18.233, while yesterday's ribbon and ball bronze medallist Melitina Staniouta of Belarus took her tally to three third place finishes with 18.066.
At the end of this second and last day of preliminaries in the individual categories, 24 athletes have made it to the all-around final, which will be contested tomorrow.
Mamun enters as top qualifier with a total score of 55.149, followed by Kudryavtseva with 55.016 and Rizatdinova with 54.450.
