Walid KtilaAugust 9 - Tunisian wheelchair racer Walid Ktila has secured his spot as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athlete of the Month for July after winning gold medals in all four of his events at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon.

The 28-year-old, who also won two gold medals at London 2012 - when he made his Paralympic Games debut, took a clean sweep to top the podium in the T34 100 metres, 200m, 400m and 800m events in the French city last month to help his nation finish 10th on the overall medals table.

Indeed, Ktila won half of the gold medals bought home by Tunisian athletes, making a name for himself as a one to watch ahead of Rio 2016.

His triumphs saw him earn 46 per cent of the public's vote to win the monthly IPC crown and beat other hopefuls in the running for the award, such as Canadian T53 wheelchair racer Brent Lakatos, who finished second in the poll with 27 per cent.

French sprinter Mandy François-Elie, Brazilian double-amputee Alan Oliveira and American wheelchair racers Raymond Martin and Tatyana McFadden were also nominated for the award.

The IPC Athlete of the Month nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees and International Federations, with the winner being selected by a public vote via a poll on the IPC website.
