Extensive coverage will include six channels of action in High Definition and standard definition as well as news and daily highlights across its digital platforms, via pay television and free-to-air for New Zealand viewers.

A daily highlights package covering local competitors will also be produced and distributed to each of the Pacific Islands.

The deal boosts a list of broadcasting deals agreed to date, including the BBC for the United Kingdom, Network Ten for Australia, Dubai-based TAJ TV for the sub-continent of India, SuperSport for Africa and the Asia Broadcasting Union within Asia.

It is anticipated that a total audience of 1.5 billion worldwide will experience Glasgow 2014's sports action and Opening and Closing Ceremonies through a range of international television and radio channels.

Glasgow 2014 will be the biggest multisport event Scotland has ever hosted, with 4,500 athletes from 71 nations set to compete in 17 sports across 11 days of events.

The sale of broadcast right packages worldwide is a part of Glasgow 2014's commercial programme which aims to raise £100 million ($154 million/€116 million) in revenue through licensing, merchandise and ticketing.

"The spectacle and wonder of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has the ability to inspire tens of millions of young people worldwide and Sky Network Television Limited will help us to share the sporting achievements of the thousands of great athletes coming to compete in Scotland," Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said.

"It is pleasing to see that the Pacific Islands are well catered for in this agreement as well as New Zealand.

"There is a huge appetite for sports fans of all the competing nations and territories to follow their athletes in action as they each bid for personal success at Glasgow 2014."

Sky Network Television Limited chief executive John Fellet was equally pleased.

"We're delighted to have the privilege of bringing this incredible event in high definition across multiple channels to Kiwi's next year," he said.

"We have a really talented team who I'm sure will do a superb job of producing this event, including providing footage for our friends in the Pacific Islands.

"New Zealand's cycling team did exceptionally well during the last Commonwealth Games, I can't wait to see how the cycling team performs next year in Glasgow."
