Laura WeightmanJuly 14 - The concluding day of the Sainsbury's British Championships and World Trials produced a drama in the women's 1,500 metres final which saw two leading contenders, London 2012 finalists Laura Weightman and Lisa Dobriskey, fail to finish.

Weightman (pictured top) left the Alexander Stadium track in tears after being spiked and falling, and Dobriskey – a former world silver medallist – pulled up injured.

Both athletes have already achieved the A qualifying standard for the World Athletics Championships, along with the 2011 world silver medallist Hannah England who won the race, but there will now be concerns about their fitness.

"It was awful, I was lucky I was in the position I was in," England, who crossed the line at the end of a tactical race in 4min10.99sec, told BBC Sport

"I really feel for them."

Weightman, 11th in last summer's Olympic 1,500m final, is coached by former world champion in the distance Steve Cram, who said his athlete had been "spiked" while bustling for position.

He later intimated that the 21-year-old's injury was not as bad as he had initially feared.

Perri Shakes-Drayton is heading to Moscow for the World Championships in fine form after breaking the British Championship 400m hurdles record with a time of 54.36sec despite an awkward clearance of the final hurdle.

"I came here to win, to retain my title," the 24-year-old European indoor 400m champion said.

"I wasn't bothered about the time.

"I just wanted to get around and secure my place.

"I'm going to Moscow."

James Ellington, the man who auctioned himself on eBay in an effort to gain sponsorship before the London 2012 Olympics, secured his World Championship place with victory in the 200m.

Ellington was one of five athletes who had already dipped below the A standard which means selectors must now choose between Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot, Richard Kilty and Delano Williams when deciding the remaining two athletes to represent Britain in the 200m.

"I'm so relieved," said Ellington.

"The trials is a stressful weekend.

"I knew I had the capability to win and I just wanted to retain my title."

In the men's 800m final Michael Rimmer earned a record sixth British title by beating Mukhtar Mohammed by seven hundredths of a second, clocking 1min 47.79sec.

Anyika Onuora, who had already secured the A standard, ran 22.71sec to win the women's 200m.
