Limerick and the French capital are two of the three cities shortlisted by the Federation of Gay Games (FGG), along with London, who they will be travelling to later this week to complete their tour.

The inspection team visited the University of Limerick and the UL Arena, where 65 per cent of the planned events will take place.

Other proposed event locations such as Adare Manor for golf, Ballyhoura for mountain biking, Thomond Park for the Opening Ceremony, UL Adventure Centre in Killaloe for triathlon, open water swim and sailing were also inspected.


The Site Selection Committee met with Adam Skerritt from Fáilte Ireland, the country's national tourist agency, and representatives from the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau. 

"We are delighted to have advanced to the next stage of the bidding process - we have been working on this bid for the last 12 months and to be chosen along with London and Paris is phenomenal," said Cillian Flynn, the Limerick 2018 bid coordinator.

"We believe that Limerick has the facilities, the resources and the determination to be successful."

The announcement of the winning city is due to be made at the FGG Annual Conference on October 7 in Cleveland, Ohio, host city of the 2014 Games.
