June 28 - Russia's Paralympic downhill skier Aleksandr Alyabyev, visited a schoolto talk to schoolchildren about his career and how Sochi 2014 will help to change attitudes towards disabilities, as part of the Games' "Our Champions "campaign.
The campaign, launched by the Sochi 2014 in May, sees members of Russia's Paralympic squad visiting schools in major cities across the country to raise awareness of Para-sports and deliver lessons on how people with disabilities can take part in sport.
The Sochi Paralympic Winter Games is due to take place from March 7 to 16 next year and Alyabyev is one of the leading contenders to claim a medal in Alpine skiing.
During the school visit, Alyabyev, 24, who came second in the overall men's rankings at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Cup in 2011-2012, watched an award winning animation film made by the pupils, was given a tour of the school's film studio and took part in a sports relay with some of the students.
"The Paralympic Games in Sochi will be one of the most important events in my career," said Alyabyev, who finished just outside the medal positions in the giant slalom, super combined and super G events at the 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in La Molina, Spain, in February.
"I can't wait to hear the sound of the crowd cheering us on, encouraging us to win.
"I am sure that the lessons featuring Sochi 2014 'Our Champion' will help the children learn more about Paralympic sports and will increase their interest in the upcoming Games."
The Sochi 2014 Our Campaign aims to deliver further lessons on the Paralympic Games and Paralympic values to schools in every Russian Federal District by the end of 2013.
