Andy Hunt in front of London 2012 logoJune 21 - Former British Olympic Association (BOA) chief exeuctive Andy Hunt has secured another high-profile role, joining Gloucester Rugby's non-executive Board as a director.

He has been given the role by Ryan Walkinshaw, chairman of the Aviva Premiership club, and will join an organisation that last December appointed Stephen Vaughan, the managing director of Thomas Cook's London 2012 partnership, as its new chief executive.

Since leaving the BOA in February, Hunt has been appointed as a special advisor to Commonwealth Games England to advise them on preparations for Glasgow 2014 and as managing director by the Progressive Media Group, a range of media and business information companies.

Hunt has capitalised on a reputation earned for overseeing Britain's most successful Olympic performance for 104 years at London 2012, being Chef de Mission as Team GB finished third overall with a total of 65 medals, 29 of them gold.

"I was approached earlier this year off the back of the Olympic Games," Hunt told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"I'm really pleased to be able to bring some of my insight and expertise into the rugby team."

Hunt is a Gloucster supporter who is based in nearby Cheltenham.

"I don't come with a rugby heritage, but what I do have is five years of understanding of how you prepare and support athletes to perform at the very highest level on the most intense stage in the world," he said.

"I think I can bring some insight on how Gloucester can take some of the magic and preparation onto the field, but more importantly, about how Gloucester can seize the opportunity they have as they go on to excel even further than last season's performance."

Hunt joins Gloucester, who finished fifth in the Premiership last season, along with Huw Morgan, the former commercial director of the International Rugby Board, and Huw Evans, founder of Regional Rugby Wales.

"Andy is well known for his role as Chef de Mission for Team GB for the London 2012 Olympic Games," said Walkinshaw.

"It's the start of an exciting new chapter in the history of Gloucester Rugby, one that will see Kingsholm host matches in Rugby World Cup 2015.

"And I'm confident that we have a board in place to rise to the challenges that lie ahead of us and help the club to thrive and prosper."
