David Courell director of operation deliveryJune 19 - David Courell, formerly London 2012's venue operations manager for the Olympic Stadium, has today been appointed by the British Paralympic Association as its new director of operation delivery.

Courell (pictured top), who joined London 2012 in 2009 and oversaw more than 100 venue project plans and their accompanying budgets, joins the national Paralympic committee from Deloitte where he worked as management consultant for the past six years.

BPA chief executive Tim Hollingsworth welcomed the appointment.

"I am thrilled by this appointment and look forward to welcoming David to the BPA team," he said.

"He was appointed following a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process, during which his relevant skills and experience gave me total confidence that we had found the right candidate.

"Working to deliver all operational aspects of our 'Maximising Momentum' Strategic Plan, David's role will prove vital over the next cycle as we prepare to send teams to Sochi [2014] and Rio [2016]."

Courell will begin his work leading the BPA's operational delivery team to ensure logistical and project management support to the British Paralympic teams heading to the Winter and Summer Games at the end of July.

"It is evident through ParalympicsGB's outstanding performances at previous Games that the BPA is home to a highly skilled and enthusiastic body of staff, completely dedicated to sending a best prepared team to compete on the world's stage," he said.

"I am truly excited to be joining the BPA, particularly at such an exciting time for Paralympic sport.

"Through the continued provision of exceptional operational support, I look forward to playing my part in the future success of the British team and the wider Paralympic Movement.

"As part of my role, I'm also keen to maintain and further develop the effective close relationships with the BPA's stakeholders and partners as we move forward, which will help us to fulfil our grand ambitions for the organisation."

Courell joins a four-strong executive team under Hollingsworth, with Penny Briscoe as director of sport, Jane Jones as director of marketing and communications, and Adam Horne as director of finance and corporate.
