Great Britain's strongest chance for medals looks to come from their male and female rugby sevens teams, both of whom were crowned World University Champions in France last year.

On the men's side, David Smith from BPP Leeds, Tomos Treharne of the University of Exeter, Edward Mama from Loughborough University and Samuel Cross of Cardiff Metropolitan University are all selected after their part in Britain's triumph at the World University Championships.

And the women's side is full of experience, with eight of the selected players having previous international experience, including Sarah McKenna from the University of Bedfordshire, Kate Hancock from the University of Plymouth, Katie Mason of the University of Bath and Emily Scott from Brunel University all gain selection after their contributions to the World Championships win.

Britain will also look strong in the judo, as three male and one female judoka get prepared to make the journey to Kazan.

Andrew Burns from the University of East London will compete in the -90 kilogram category on the back of a gold medal in the World Cup event in Minsk last year and a silver in the British Championships, along with -73kg competitor Patrick Dawson from Heriot-Watt University, who took gold in this year's Buenos Aires Pan-American competition, and -81kg judoka Thomas Reed from St Mary's University College, who has three international gold medals to his name, as well as four silver and two gold medals in national senior championships.

The sole female judoka representing Britain will be national -70kg champion Megan Fletcher from the University of Bristol, who will be looking to build on her performance at the Shenzhen 2011 Universiade in which she was knocked out in the first round.

On the badminton front, Britain's main hope for medals looks likely to be Leeds Metropolitan student James Bonsels, who was named as Badminton England's Player of the Year in 2010 and is ranked sixth in England in the men's singles.

His fellow Leeds Met students Sophie Brown and Emma Smethurst are included, along with national men's doubles champions Harley Towler and Peter Briggs from Loughborough University.

Three women's FA Cup winners are selected to compete in the British women's football team: Everton midfielder Michelle Hinnigan from the University of Salford, along with Birmingham pair Isobel Christiansen and Kerys Harrop, who was recently called up for the England senior squad.

All-American doubles champion Daniel Cochrane from Auburn University, Chris Simpson of Louisiana State and Daneika Borthwick from Florida State team up with Loughborough University's Scott Whitbread and Amanda Elliott in the tennis, along with Anna Fitzpatrick from the University of East London completing the team.

Three British champions will compete in the artistic gymnastics, including two-time Olympian and two-time national champion Hannah Whelan from Liverpool John Moore University, along with 2010 British rings champion Samuel Fern of Leeds Metropolitan University and 2011 and 2012 British beam champion Danusia Francis, who studies at the University of California Los Angeles.

Ten athletes have been selected to compete in the shooting, including four-time British Air Rifle Champion and winner of the Rising Star award from Sport Wales, Michael Bamsey, and Husayn Rosowsky from the University of Greenwich leads a three-man fencing team and will be looking to build on his sixth-place finish from Shenzhen 2011.

And the swimming team, which currently has a shortlist of 20 athletes, headed by the distinguished McClatchey from Loughborough , will be confirmed on July 1.

The 2013 Summer Universiade kicks off on July 6 and runs through to July 17.
