The case was taken to the CAS after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) made an appeal claiming that 20-year-old Galiulina should serve a longer ban than that given by her sport's world governing body.

Galiulina, a bronze medallist at the 2010 Asian Games, tested positive for furosemide, a diuretic that is included on the WADA's banned drug list due to its alleged use as a masking agent for other drugs, in a urine sample taken two days before last summer's Olympics opened last July.

Speaking to insidethegames in January this year, FIG defended its sanction saying it considered the gymnast's career when handing out suspensions - given that a long ban would effectively spell the end of her career - and argued that Galiulina "had already suffered adequate punishment by being excluded from the Olympic Games".

Galiulina will be eligible to compete again as of August 1, 2014.
