Both singles ties were a repeat of the gold and bronze medal matches at the London 2012 with Paralympic champion Noam Gershony of Israel taking on David Wagnerof the USA and his American compatriot Nick Taylor facing Israel's Shraga Weinberg.

In the first game, world number three Taylor produced a superb display to crush Weinberg 6-3 6-0 to repeat his victory of the Israeli from the bronze medal match at the Paralympics.

"I went into the lead and did not let him back into the match," said Taylor.

"The last time I played him was for the bronze in London and that was a very tough three set match, but the conditions were very different here and I'm definitely a happier person on the clay than I am on the type of courts that we had in London.

Following Taylor's win, former world number one Noam Gershony, who was taking part in his tournament since winning London 2012 gold, faced current world number one Wagner, who he beat in the quad final of the Paralympics.

Wagner dominated from the outset as an array of blistering shots saw him take revenge following his London 2012 defeat with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win.

"We stuck to our game plan and really supported each other," said Wagner.

"We were the best team out there.

"It is always good to get out and battle the best.

"I think this is my sixth World Team Cup title and I'd like to dedicate it to my mum Cathy Carson and my grandma Dorothy Carson."

Meanwhile Italy beat Japan in the bronze medal match as Marco Innocenti and Mitsuteru Moroishi beat Shinichi Hirata and Antonio Raffaele 6-1, 7-5 in the deciding doubles to take third spot on the podium.
