kelly clark Mammoth MountainMay 23 - The United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) has named Mammoth Mountain as its official training ground for the nation's Olympic freeskiing and snowboarding hopes ahead of the Sochi 2014 Games.

The California ski resort will play host to spring and fall training camps for athletes, including the likes of world champions Ted Ligety - also a Turin 2006 Winter Olympic gold medallist - and Mikaela Shiffrin, through to 2019 meaning it will also be used by snowsport stars for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic halfpipe snowboarding champion Kelly Clark (pictured top) welcomed the news and said she is looking forward to preparing for Sochi 2014 on Mammoth.

"Mammoth Mountain goes above and beyond to build us the halfpipe set up we need to progress our riding," said Clark, who also won a bronze medal at Vancouver 2010.

"I am looking forward to next year when Mammoth will play host to the final Olympic qualifiers and the Olympic team for Sochi is named."

The teams will be based at Mammoth's Unbound Terrain Park this November to prepare for the Olympic season and the resort will also host the final Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix on January 18 and 19 next year.

"Mammoth Mountain is an ideal location for our May and November training sessions, along with the opportunity for other projects during the season," USSA snowboarding and freeskiing director Jeremy Forster said.

"The Unbound park staff provide the best possible setup for our pro and rookie teams, along with our Project Gold talent development programme.

"Mammoth has been a key player in snowboarding and freeskiing and is a place where the riders feel very much at home."
