Mary Kom 2May 14 - London 2012 Olympic flyweight bronze medallist and five-time world champion Mary Kom of India has given birth to a baby boy at a private hospital in Manipur.

The 30-year-old has long been one of the biggest female boxing stars in the world and took bronze medal at London 2012 after losing her semi-final bout to eventual champion Nicola Adams of Britain in a competition that saw women make their Olympic debut in the sport.

It proved to be India's only boxing medal at the London 2012 Olympics.

Kom and her husband Onler already have six-year-old twin sons Rechungvar and Khupneivar.

"The baby weighs 3.81 kg and the delivery was normal," said Mary Kom's gynaecologist Dr N Purnima.

"Both mother and child are doing fine."

Kom's husband Onler admitted he was delighted.

"I'm happy because he is a baby boy," said Onler.

"I cannot say whether he will be a boxer or an educationist.

"I want to make him a god-fearing person who will look after his family and people."

Asked whether his wife would continue her boxing career following the birth, he said: "It depends on her health."

Should Kom continue her career, she would likely be the biggest rival to Adams at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Adams, who became the first female boxer to win an Olympic gold medal at London 2012, will be looking to make more history at Glasgow 2014 by becoming the first female boxer to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal and her task will be made far easier if Kom is absent.
