Jordanne WhileyMay 5 - Wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley sealed the first International Tennis Federation (ITF) 1 Series women's singles title of her career as she defeated British compatriot Lucy Shuker 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the final of the Atlanta Open in the United States.

The final saw the two players face each other just over six month after they won a bronze medal for Britain together in the women's wheelchair doubles competition at London 2012.

It also marked the first all-British women's singles final at ITF 1 Series level on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and after sharing the first two set, Whiley dominated the decider to take her biggest ever title and leave Shuker as the runner-up in Atlanta for the second successive year.

"I'm so happy to have won my first ever singles ITF1 title," said the 20-year-old from Birmingham.

"It was a tough match but I'm really happy with how I pulled through.

"I can see the improvements I've made so far in 2013 and I'm sure there's more to come."

There was further silverware for Shuker when she teamed up with Whiley as the pair defended their doubles title by beating Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany and Sharon Walraven of the Netherlands 6-1, 5-7, 10-7.

More British success came in the men's doubles as Gordon Reid and Dutchman Maikel Scheffers justified top seeding to clinch their fourth title together from five tournaments after a polished 6-2, 6-1 win over second seeds Michael Jeremiasz of France and Ben Weekes of Australia.

However, Andy Lapthorne faced a much tougher match in the quad singles final and Britain's world number two was crushed by American world number one David Wagner 6-0, 6-0 as he clinched his seventh successive Atlanta Open title.
