Sascha Kindred 300413April 30 - Six-time Paralympic gold medallist Sascha Kindred and four-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds are among a long list of champions to have been named on the 32-strong British team heading to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Montreal later this year.

Kindred (pictured top), who has 12 Paralympic medals from five Games to his name, secured his place at what will be his sixth World Championships and he will be joined by another 12-time Paralympic medallist Matt Walker who has booked his place at his fifth world-level competition.

"I am pretty excited to be able to compete alongside some of the world's best again," said 35-year old Kindred.

"I didn't have a great lead up to the trials and to achieve the time was a big relief.

"The qualification in Great Britain is always tough because of the level that we are at so I am pleased to be named on the team today.

"This is my sixth World Championships and I have medalled at the last five.

"I would love to medal again but I just want to go and do my best out there.

"The team has a great mix of youth and experience and it is always good to have an environment like that.

"The younger athletes are always pushing on the older ones and we can also share our experiences and knowledge to help support the younger swimmers."

Ellie Simmonds 300413The 2013 event will be Ellie Simmonds' third IPC Swimming World Championships

Simmonds, who competed at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, was only 12-years old when she went to her first World Championships in Durban and now, at 18, she is returning for her third.

Other British Paralympic swimming champions heading to Canada to take on the rest of the world include Jessica-Jane Applegate, Robert Welbourn, Sam Hynd, Oliver Hynd, Jonathan Fox, James Crisp and Josef Craig.

The event, due to take place on August 12 until 18, will be the first competition where new national performance director Chris Furber, who takes up his new role on the May 13, will lead Britain.

"I am really looking forward to working with this team," Furber said.

"Montreal will be my first swimming competition but I am excited to bring my experience to the team at the first major competition post London.

"The team is a relatively young one with nine athletes currently under 18 years of age.

"This is a good sign for future development of the team as we begin to build towards the Rio Paralympic Games."
