The contract - signed at St George's Park, England's National Football Centre, in Burton upon Trent - will see Kukri producing an exclusive range of replica team products for England fans.

In 2008 and 2011 Kukri provided England's kit for the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The new deal was signed in front of English representatives from each of the Commonwealth Games' sports by Adam Paker, chief executive of Commonwealth Games England (CGE), and Phil Morris, Kukri's founder and group managing director.

The agreement between CGE and Kukri comes after months of consultation and research, including the involvement of a panel of athletes who fed into the design process, officials claimed.

Kurki will also provide kit to England's support staff at Glasgow 2014.

Kukri, who are based in Preston, replace Adidas, who supplied England's kit at the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010.

"I know how important a high quality and bespoke kit is to the athletes and their ultimate performance, and I'm delighted Kukri have met our objectives and risen to the challenge," said Dame Kelly Holmes, the President of CGE and a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

"It will be great to see athletes involved in the kit design process, which was certainly a deciding factor in our search for our official kit supplier."

England are expected to send a team of nearly 400 to compete in 17 sports at Glasgow 2014.

"Kit is central to our commitment to provide our athletes with the best possible Games experience, and as an English-based company they are very enthusiastic about the project, determined to produce the very best for both our team and our supporters," said Paker.

"The Commonwealth Games are just 15 months away and we are looking forward to working with a group that is so committed to the needs and success of our team."

Kukri, which was founded in 1999, is best known for its work in rugby union and currently works with 14 national teams, along with several top club sides, including two-times Heineken Cup winners London Wasps.

They also supply kit for England's netball team, the favourites for the gold medal at Glasgow 2014 after beating the top-ranked Australia earlier this year.

"Kukri is incredibly proud that Commonwealth Games England has chosen us, as an upcoming sportswear brand headquartered in Preston, England, to provide their kit," said Morris.

"It shows just how far we've come since we started in 1999.

"We're already working very hard to provide our unique style of team identity, through made to order designs and custom fits to the many shapes and sizes of athletes and delegates.

"They're all going to look great."
