Usain Bolt pose1April 17 - Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt will headline the London Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium this July, it was confirmed today.

The announcement for the competition, which is due to take place on July 26 until 28, means the 26-year-old will return to the venue that saw him take three gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics last summer in the 100 and 200 metres, as well as the 4x100m relay.

Bolt's spectacular feat at London 2012 saw him replicate his triple gold medal winning performance at Beijing 2008 to become the first man in history to win all three events at two Olympic Games.

The first two days of the London Anniversary Games on the Friday and Saturday will be an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meet and Bolt will compete on both days.

The Jamaican will line up in the 100m on the Friday evening before he competes in the 4x100m relay on the Saturday.

Bolt will be competing at the London IAAF Diamond League for the first time since 2009.

He has avoided competing in the United Kingdom in recent years due to a draconian tax rule that sees him paying astronomical amounts, however the Government has put a "one-off" tax exemption in place for the event, similar to the one at London 2012, which means international stars receive a tax break while competing in London.

"I'm looking forward to coming back to the UK, especially with it being a year since winning three gold medals in the Olympic Stadium," said Bolt.

"The crowd were amazing at the Games and I hope they will be out again in their numbers at the end of July.

"I haven't competed at the London Diamond League since 2009 but it has always been a great meet with lots of Jamaican support – it almost feels like running at home."

Bolt is among 29 Olympic medallists, including 12 champions and four world record holders, who have so far been confirmed for the London IAAF Diamond League event, which is the last major meet before the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in August.

These include women's Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson of Australia, men's Olympic 110m hurdles champion Aries Merritt of the United States, men's Olympic 400m champion Kirani James of Granada, women's Olympic 400m champion Sanya Richards-Ross of American and women's Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand.

The British field was unveiled earlier this week with Olympic champions Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford all scheduled for the meet.

The three-day Anniversary Games, which Sainsbury's are the headline sponsor for, will conclude on July 28 with a one-off International Paralympic Committee (IPC) International Challenge feature some of the world's best Paralympians, including Britain's London 2012 100m T44 champion Jonnie Peacock.
