Ian Silverman 2April 5 - America's Paralympic swimming champion Ian Silverman continued his stunning form at the 2013 Spring CanAms at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis as he claimed his second world record of the week, this time in the men's 800 metres freestyle S10 class.

The 17-year-old from Maryland had already taken the 1500m freestyle S10 world record yesterday and followed it up with a superb display in 800m as he finished in 8min 25.69sec.

The event is also serving as both Canada's and United States' qualifier for the 2013 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Montreal in August and Silverman is proving that he could well be one of the majors stars at the competition later this year.

"I'm feeling great," said Silverman, winner of the the 400m freestyle S10 at London 2012.

"I've been training hard and everything feels like it's coming together here."

The event also saw a superb display from another American Paralympic champion Victoria Arlen as she set a new American and Pan American record for the women's 50m freestyle S6 with a time of 34.97sec.

"I was hoping for the best and trusted my training," said Arlen, who is set to be Britain's Ellie Simmonds' biggest rival at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships.

"Staying on pace and with good competitors pushing me, I was really happy to get under 35 seconds.

"My coach believed I could do it and that hard work does pay off."

There was also huge success for Canada's S14 swimmer Kayla Wheeler, who set world best times in the women's 50m breaststroke of 42.3), 100m backstroke of 1:17.97 and 200m individual medley of 2:49.26, and her compatriot Justine Morrier, who set two world records in the women's 100m backstroke of 1:17.79 and 200m individual medley of 2:51.13, also in the S14 class.

All records set at the event are still pending IPC Swimming ratification.
