British Lionhearts v Mexico March 29 2013March 29 - The British Lionhearts were tonight crushed 5-0 by Mexico Guerreros at their fortress, Foro Polanco, enabling the hosts to reverse a 4-1 first leg deficit and advance to a semi-final meeting in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with Astana Arlans Kazakhstan.

Plucky performances from Sean McGoldrick and Sam Maxwell were not enough to prolong the Lionhearts' season as they suffered points losses to Elias Emigdio and Juan Romero respectively.

Further points defeats for Lionhearts fighters Kaupo Arro, Babacar Kamara and Uaine Fa sealed defeat against a strong Mexican line-up.

"It was always going to be tough boxing at such high altitude against a strong Mexican team, and despite some creditable performances, the team just couldn't do enough to get a result on this occasion," said Rob McCracken, GB Boxing's performance director.

"The World Series Of Boxing is a very tough competition which features many of the best young boxers in the world, and I think the Lionhearts have done well in their first season.

"The team was a match for anyone at home and some of our boxers have been among the best in the whole competition.

"The boxers in the GB boxing squad have enjoyed taking part in WSB and they have all learnt something and improved as a result of the experience."

The Guerreros now face a tough semi-final match against one of the most powerful franchise's in the league, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, with the first leg due to take place on either April 12 or 13 in Mexico, with the return a week later in Kazakhstan.
