Germany v Japan 2013 Sledge Hockey World ChampionshipsMarch 16 - Germany defeated Japan 3-2 for gold at the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships B-Pool in Nagano, while Britain kept alive their hopes of qualifying for next year's Paralympics by winning the bronze medal playoff against Estonia.

Germany scored twice in four minutes against the hosts in the second period thanks to Frank Rennhack and Bas Disveld. 

Japan rallied in the final period when Satoru Sudo scored, only but for Rennhack to restore Germany's 3-1 lead.

Kazuhiro Takahashi hit as second for Japan, but Germany were able to hold onto their lead and claim the gold.

In the bronze-medal contest, Britain's Tyler Christopher opened the scoring in the first period and then Gary Farmer scored two goals early in the second period to give them a 3-0 lead.

Despite goals from Rasmus Penno and Kaido Kalm for Estonia shortly after, Britain held on to win, thanks mainly to goalkeeper Robin Gaze, who recorded 17 saves.

Japan's Takahashi was named best forward at the Championships and the host nation's Satoru Sudo was named best defenceman, while Poland's Andrzej Mylnarczyk was picked as the best goalkeeper.

Germany, Japan and Britain all now advance to the Paralympic Qualification Tournament later this year, where spots at Sochi 2014 will be the prize.
