Kelly Gallagher skiingMarch 10 - Britain's Kelly Gallagher won the gold medal today in the women's slalom visually impaired class at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Cup finals in Sochi 2014.

The Northern Irish skier, together with her guide Charlotte Evans, claimed victory with the fastest overall time of 1min 50.67sec in a competition that is being used as the test event for next year's Paralympics.

It was the pair's first World Cup win since they teamed up in late 2010.

"It's been amazing, so good," said Gallagher, who won four medals at the IPC World Skiing Championships.

"Charlotte's kept me at the top, saying 'Come on, it's just skiing, we can do this.'

"It all came together – it was really good."

British teammates Jade Etherington and her new guide John Clark were also on the podium, finishing third in 2:01.49, with Russia's Alexandra Frantseva, guided by Pavel Zabotin, half-a-second behind Gallagher and Evans.

The performance was good enough to give Frantseva and Zabotin the overall slalom trophy with 560 points and giant slalom with 340 points.
