East will see the London Legacy Development Corporation work in partnership with arts and learning organisation the Barbican and arts venture Create London to stage a weekend of music, food, art and theatre inspired by the east of the capital.

The festival will be just one of the major events happening at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to celebrate the one year anniversary of London 2012 as the Legacy Company has already announced plans for the London Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium from July 26 to 28.

The London Anniversary Games will see IAAF Diamond League action on July 26 to 27 with a dedicated Paralympic competition on July 28.

Mayor of London and Legacy Company chairman Boris Johnson has predicted that East will be a huge success.

"East will help kick off a thrilling weekend of culture and sport," he said.

"It heralds a glorious summer in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which we want to become a must see destination for Londoners and tourists alike.

"With exciting performances, big name concerts and top flight sporting action we are getting things off to a rip-roaring start, which will etch east London into people's memories and bring jobs and growth to the area."

Following the conclusion of East, the North Park, which includes the Copper Box, the North Park Cafe and community rooms, will open to the public.

The North park will be the first part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to open, with the entire facility set to be fully open by spring 2014.

The first event of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be the Hard Rock Calling music concert on June 29 to 30 before it stages the Wireless concert on July 12 to 13 July ahead of the London 2012 anniversary celebrations.

Legacy Company chief executive Dennis Hone believes East will be a great addition to the growing Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park events calendar.

"We are delighted to be working with the Barbican and Create London to bring two days of theatre, magic and music to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park," he said.

"Alongside our full summer events programme, and the London Anniversary Games this event shows the breadth of entertainment that will be on offer in the Park when we fully open in spring 2014.

"We are on track to deliver a top visitor destination and a great legacy for east London."

East will include live international music, a food festival and a mini-travelling art circus featuring theatre, magic, music and games in a move to commemorate the creative legacy of London 2012.
