Wheelchair Basketball 2011February 12 - England Netball head of performance Paul Davies has been appointed as performance director for the British wheelchair basketball teams.


Davies will take on the role from April 2 this year following his role with England Netball, in which he oversaw their historic series win over world number one side and ten-time world champions Australia earlier this year.

British Wheelchair Basketball's (BWB) new performance director has also served as head of sport science and medicine for Paralympic sport at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) and worked with the British Paralympic Association (BPA)

"I am looking forward to working with British Wheelchair Basketball, the national teams and the new challenge." said Davies

"I saw both compete in London and really believe that we have the opportunity to medal in Rio [2016]."

Malcolm Tarkenter, British Wheelchair Basketball Chairman, said: "Paul comes to us on the back of the most successful period of England Netball's performance programme, a feat I am sure he will be able to emulate with the British men's and women's teams as we focus on Rio.

"The ambition and drive Paul has shown is infectious.

"With him we believe we can realise the potential of the players and staff to see great things in Brazil."

Britain's men's team came fourth at London 2012 after losing to the United States in the bronze medal game, whilst the women's team finished seventh.
