CPC logoFebruary 6 - Nominations for individuals to be inducted into the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame for 2013 are now being called for.


The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) are encouraging all members of the Canadian Paralympic family to nominate their athletes, coaches, leaders and others who could qualify for entry into the prestigious Hall of Fame.

The Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame has three categories which are athlete, coach, or builder.

"All nominations must be received by the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame Selection Committee by March 15, 2013," said a CPC statement.

"Inductees will be invited to attend the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on May 10, 2013 in Toronto."

Athletes to be inducted into the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame include visually impaired swimmer Michael Edgson, who won 18 Paralympic gold medals in a glittering career.

Dr Earl Church is so far the only coach in the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame after the athletics trainer helped numerous competitors to Paralympic gold in four consecutive Games from Barcelona 1992 to Athens 2004.

Meanwhile, builders in the Canadian Paralympic Hall of Fame include Dr Robert Steadward who was the first President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), where he served in the role from 1989 to 2001.
