160157350January 27 - World number one Novak Djokovic defeated number three seed Andy Murray in four sets to win the Australian Open for the third consecutive year at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Djokovic had to come from behind after losing the first set 7-6, but after winning the second set by the same score, the Serbian cruised to victory, winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 to take the title.

"I would like to congratulate Andy," said Djokovic on winning the tournament

"We've played so many great matches over the years and I hope for many to come."

"What a joy, it's an incredible feeling winning this trophy once more, it's my favourite Grand Slam my most successful grand slam, I love this court."

Murray, who had defeated Djokovic to win his first Grand Slam title in the US Open last year, was evidently suffering from severely blistered feet, which took their toll on his performance as the tie went on.

The 25-year-old Briton refused to blame his defeat on injury, however.

"I very rarely get blisters," he said

"But 90 per cent of the players on the tour will have played this tournament with some sort of blister or problem.

"It had no bearing at all on the result; it just hurts a bit when you run."

Djokovic retains his spot as the world's number one player, and Murray stays at number three, though he is catching up on second-ranked Roger Federer, who he defeated in the semi-final.
