Djokovic won the Australian Open in 2012, defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, and also reached the final of the French Open but was defeated on this occasion by the Spaniard.

The 25-year-old won the sixth Grand Slam title of his career at the Australian Open last Sunday (January 27) beating Britain's Andy Murray in the final. 

Novak Djokovic has been voted as the Balkan Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year following his Australian Open win in 2012

Djokovic defeated two London 2012 Olympic champions to win the award.

In second place was Asli Cakir Alptekin of Turkey, who won the women's 1500 metres, and third-placed was women's discus gold-medallist, Sandra Perkovic of Croatia.
