LeBron James2 030113January 2 - London 2012 Olympic basketball gold medalist LeBron James has been named as the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year 2012.

The 28-year-old Miami Heat star is only the second player in history, after Michael Jordan, to win an Olympic gold medal, an National Basketball Association (NBA) Championship and an NBA Most Valuable Player award in the same year.
 
James averaged 13.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game for the United States team during London 2012, and was identified by coach Mike Krzyzewski as "the central figure on this team".

The man nicknamed "King James" has represented his country at the last three Olympic Games, leading his team to gold at both London 2012 and Beijing 2008, as well as taking home bronze from Athens 2004.

The Ohio-born forward has won numerous titles throughout his career, including eight NBA All-Star wins, three NBA Most Valuable Player awards and he was named in the SLAM magazine 50 Greatest NBA Players of All-Time.
