David Grevemberg_30-10-12October 30 - Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg admitted that while his Organising Committee will not get complacent, they are very confident of delivering a successful Commonwealth Games following their impressive preparations for the competition so far.

Enthusiasm in the United Kingdom has dramatically increased for Glasgow 2014 on the back of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordination Commission was glowing with praise following the recent visit to the Scottish city.

It comes following the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi which was plagued with major construction delays, safety fears and controversy in the lead up to the event in a crisis which Grevemberg (pictured top) says Glasgow 2014 has learnt from.

"A number of members of the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee spent time observing the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, during which a number of lessons were learnt," he said.

"During a recent visit to Glasgow, members of the CGF Coordination Commission noted that the Games' Village has the potential to be the best ever for athletes in Commonwealth Games history.

"We're not going to rest on our laurels though.

"We're confident in our ability and focused on our vision to deliver a fantastic athlete centred and sport focused Games in Glasgow in just under two years' time.

The Glasgow 2014 chief also said the organisation will also draw on the experiences of the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, which many experts believe is the best Commonwealth Games in history.

"I believe drawing on the experiences of the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games will be a crucial factor in ensuring that Glasgow 2014 is a success," he said.

"Overall, I am pleased with our progress and confident in our ability to stage an outstanding Games in 2014.

"However, we will not be complacent and I'm aware of the hard work which lies ahead over the next two years."
