sochi 2014_marathon_of_knowledge_12-10-121October 12 - Sochi 2014's "Marathon of Olympic Knowledge" programme, which has just concluded, has seen more than 100,000 Olympic lessons held for more than four million schoolchildren across Russia.

Over 100,000 teachers participated in the event along with representatives of the Sochi 2014 partners and volunteers.

The Marathon of Olympic Knowledge finished with a lesson on the theme of "London 2012 – Sochi 2014" at the Moscow Centre of Education with the participation Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Alexander Zhukov and London 2012 Olympic judo silver medallist Alexander Mikhailin.

But despite the completion of the Marathon of Olympic Knowledge, Sochi 2014 has promised that the mission of Olympic education will remain relevant even after the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

"In the long term, the Organising Committee in cooperation with the ROC intends to launch a full-scale programme to introduce educational materials to the subjects of the Russian Federation with the support of the regional Olympic councils and educational, physical educational and sports authorities," said a Sochi 2014 statement.

"A distance education programme for representatives of all 83 subjects was launched in September of this year in order to achieve this goal, and as a result of this programme by the end of 2013 Olympic education will encompass the entire country."

Sochi 2014 is scheduled to take place on February 7-23, with 98 events set to take place across 15 sports.
