The announcement means that the technology company becomes the first post-London 2012 sponsor of Glasgow 2014 and it is expected that many more will follow after the huge success of the Olympics and Paralympics for the United Kingdom.

In the context of the Commonwealth Games, Toshiba's role will include providing a managed print service at key locations such as the Athletes' Village and Main Press Centre (MPC).

The announcement was made in Glasgow at Scotstoun Sports Campus by Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg (pictured top, left) and Toshiba TEC UK managing director Adam Sheppard (pictured top, right) with the support of Scotland's Commonwealth Games silver medallist Eilidh Child (pictured top, centre), who competed in the 400 metres hurdles at the London 2012 Olympics.

"I am delighted to welcome Toshiba TEC UK into the Glasgow 2014 sponsor family," said Grevemberg.

"The company is a true leader in its field and brings a wealth of expertise, not only in delivering key services but also doing so amidst the uniquely pressurised environment of global sporting events.

"I look forward to working Toshiba TEC UK over the next two years and am sure their valued experience will help keep Glasgow 2014 running smoothly from now until Games time."

Toshiba TEC is an independent operating company of Toshiba Corporation, the seventh largest electronics company in the world, and it has delivered for global sporting events in the past having sponsored two Rugby World Cups in New Zealand in 2011 and in France in 2007.

"Toshiba TEC UK and the Commonwealth Games share values such as healthy competition, a commitment to the communities in which we operate and the desire to achieve the highest standards," explained Sheppard.

"We're honoured to be playing a part in the Commonwealth Games and are looking forward to an enjoyable two years of preparation."

The announcement means that Toshiba becomes the sixth official supporter of Glasgow 2014 alongside Atos, Dell, Ernst & Young, Harper Macleod and Search Consultancy.

In addition to the six official supporters, Glasgow 2014 has two official partners – the highest rank within the event's commercial programme – in Longines and SSE.

"I welcome Toshiba TEC UK to the growing list of major companies wanting to help make the Glasgow Commonwealth Games the most enjoyable 11 days of sport that Scotland has ever seen," added Scotland's Minister for the Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison.

"Toshiba's previous experience in delivering sporting events will be invaluable in ensuring we have top quality services to run the Games."
