womens combined_class_discus_event_31_AugustAugust 31 – Organisers of the Paralympics at London 2012 have been forced into a humiliating apology after presenting the incorrect medals to athletes competing in the women's combined class discus F35/36 event because of inaccurate results data.

The original classification saw Ukraine's Mariia Pomazan (pictured top, centre) given the gold medal with Qing Wu of China (pictured top, left) handed silver and compatriot Jiongyu Bao the bronze.

All three were presented with their medals on the podium in front of an 80,000 crowd.

However, a subsequent correction to the results has seen Wu elevated to gold medal position with Pomazan relegated to silver.

Meanwhile Bao has dropped out of the medal places and been reclassified in fourth spot with Australia's Katherine Proudfoot (pictured below), who was originally placed fifth, now taking the bronze.

"In today's women's combined class discus event [F35/36] incorrect medals were awarded following the use of inaccurate results data," said a London 2012 statement.

"We sincerely apologise to the athletes affected."

"Omega is currently uploading the correct data and the final results for the women's discus F35/36 event will be amended and restated."

A new medal ceremony is now set to be held during tomorrow morning's athletics session.

"All combined class field events use the Raza System – a points-scoring system where the final positions are determined by points rather than distance," continued the London 2012 statement.

"It uses a statistical model based on population of each class, level of impairment and performance.

"Each year an analysis of results is taken and the Raza System is updated accordingly."

The inaccurate data also affected the men's shot put F42/44 although the final medal placings were not affected.
