Malaysia won just one bronze medal at Beijing 2008, courtesy of Siow Lee Chan (pictured below) in the women's powerlifting competition.

A total of 23 athletes are in London competing in eight sports, including archery, athletics, powerlifting and table tennis.

NSC director Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, speaking in Putrajaya at an event attended by members and families of the country's Paralympians, said: "They are better prepared for the event in London.

"The athletes have also had a more systematic training programme with the NSC having taken over preparations from the Malaysian Paralympic Council.


"Under the NSC programme we have sent some of the athletes for overseas training.

"They may just spring a surprise in London."

He added that Malaysia could beat the one silver and one bronze medal won at the Barcelona 1992 Games.

The Malaysian squad arrived in London earlier this week and will spend the next week acclimatising and preparing for the Paralympics that starts on August 29.
