Pat Anderson_23_JulyJuly 23 – The United States emerged victorious from their three-game wheelchair basketball series with Canada at Brock University in St Catharines, Ontario.

Their impressive showings mean that the US are well placed to battle for gold at London 2012, after also claiming victory at the recent BT Paralympic World Cup.

For Beijing 2008 silver medallists Canada, they will be disappointed that they had already lost the series after being defeated in the first two matches.

Canada had led by nine points at the break of their first game, before Steve Serio inspired an American comeback and 67-61 win.

Despite the loss Pat Anderson (pictured top, in white) was in good form for the Canadians, scoring 27 points.

The second game was also a relatively close affair, with the lead changing five times as the US claimed a 58-50 win.

Again Anderson was prolific, scoring 20 points for the hosts, but the US had a more even spread of points scorers, with Josh Chambers netting eight, followed by Serio (pictured below) and Josh Turek with seven each.

Canada's victory in the final game was largely down to Anderson, who made 37 points to secure 70-56 victory.

Canada may take heart, however, from the fact that over the course of the three games, the two teams were level in total points scored.

The US will be confident heading into London now, particularly after victory at the Parapan American Games last year, meaning they are in good shape to win a medal for the first time since Sydney 2000.

They will have a tough opponent for gold in Australia, who won gold four years ago and are in impressive form too.

For Canada, their attentions will now turn to their final warm-up tournament in the Netherlands next month.

They take on their hosts, Germany and Turkey between August 16 and 19 before they travel to Sheffield in Britain for a final training camp.
