Tom Egberink_and_Michael_Jeremiasz_9_JulyJuly 8 - There were surprises at the Wimbledon wheelchair tennis tournament as both the women's and men's doubles titles were won by outsiders.

Michael Jeremiasz of France and Dutchman Tom Egberink (pictured top, left and right) and paired up to beat the French United States Open champions Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer in the last four.

They then stunned Dutch top seeds Robin Ammerlaan and Ronald Vink in the final 6-4, 6-2.

That meant the duo have gone 10 matches unbeaten across three tournaments and landed their first Grand Slam title.

Ammerlaan and Vink would have won their third title at Wimbledon with a victory over the pair.

"We were solid today and for me it shows what you can achieve when you play like brothers," Jeremiasz said.

"We were not slow to start today, we made sure we imposed ourselves on them and didn't let them impose themselves on us."

Houdet and Peifer claimed third place after beating Britain's Marc McCarroll and Gordon Reid 6-1, 7-6 in the third place playoff.

In the women's tournament, Aniek van Koot and Jiske Griffioen (pictured above, left and right) of the Netherlands won their first Grand Slam title together.

The 2011 runners-up stunned compatriots Marjolein Buis and Esther Vergeer, who is undefeated in nine years in the singles, to reach the final.

Griffioen and van Koot then defeated British pair Lucy Shuker and Jordanne Whiley in the final.

It was a comfortable win over the home favourites by 6-1, 6-2.

"It's an incredible feeling to win our first Grand Slam together and to win my second Slam after I won Roland Garros in 2010 with Dani di Toro," said van Koot.

"It's very special to do it at Wimbledon after being so close last year."

Vergeer and Buis eased to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Annick Sevenans of Belgium and Dutchwoman Sharon Walraven to seal third place.

Next on the wheelchair tennis calendar will be the London 2012 Paralympic Games at Eton Manor in the Olympic Park.
