Helena Lucas_21-06-12June 21 - Britain's Helena Lucas has underlined her status as a favourite for a London 2012 Paralympic gold medal after she topped the standings at the ISAF World Cup in Germany in the single-person keelboat Paralympic sailing class.

After seven regattas, Lucas (pictured above and below, back row, right) did just enough to seal the overall title, with compatriot Megan Pascoe securing second spot.

Canada's Paul Tingley finished third.

Lucas will now head into London 2012 in the best form.

Last month, she was named as a member of the ParalympicsGB team, joining Alex Rickham (pictured below, front row, right) and Niki Birrell (pictured below, back row second left) in the SKUD class and the Sonar crew of John Robertson (pictured below, front row, left), Hannah Stodel (pictured below, back row, left) and Stephen Thomas (pictured below, back row, second left), whose selection was announced last year.

Lucas admitted she is excited about the forthcoming Paralympic sailing competition, which will take place at Weymouth and Portland.

"London 2012 being a home Games it just adds that extra little bit of excitement to the whole thing," she said.

"Home advantage will hopefully give us a little bit of a push in the right direction, and I think the support that we're going to get with it being a home Games is going to be amazing.

"It would be absolutely amazing to be able to win a Paralympic medal and to be able to do it in front of family and friends and a home crowd would be something really special.

"I think these Games, both in terms of Paralympic sailing and the Paralympics in general, will be one of the best Paralympic Games ever just because the British support and interest in Paralympic sport has been fantastic, and the country seems to be really enthused and motivated by the athletes."
