Surrey Sports_Park_frontMay 13 - Argentina's Paralympic team are to prepare for London 2012 at the Surrey Sports Park, it has been announced.

The squad from the South American country will train at the Park in Guildford throughout August as they prepare for sports including boccia, football, judo, power lifting, tennis, swimming and table tennis events.

Argentina is the seventh country to sign a deal with Surrey Sports Park, joining 11 Olympic teams for training camps including Britain, Nigeria, Spain and the United States.

The deal was signed between Dr Jose Lago Rodriguez (pictured below, left), the director general of the Argentina Paralympic Committee, and Paul Blanchard (pictured right) the chief executive of Surrey Sports Park.

Surrey Sports Park houses some of the most up-to-date sports facilities in the country, as well as the county's first 50 metre pool, eight outdoor floodlit tennis courts, two new floodlit artificial grass pitches and a 120 station health and fitness centre.

"We are delighted to welcome Argentina to our impressive line-up of Olympic and Paralympic teams training at Surrey Sports Park," said Blanchard.

"We are proud to be part of a county hosting more teams than any other in the UK and we know that your members and the Guildford community will enjoy training alongside these elite athletes."

Argentina made its debut in the Paralympics in 1960 in Rome and have won a total of 146 medals, including 30 gold.

At the last Paralympics in Beijing four years ago they sent a team of 42 athletes who competed in eight sports.

They won a total of six medals but missed out on a gold medal.

Their best performance came from Sebastian Baldassarri, who won a silver medal in the F11/12 discus.
