Dartanyon Crockett_April_27April 27 - Six judokas have been nominated to the United States Paralympic team following trials in Irving, Texas.

The trials took place alongside the senior national championships, with USA Judo looking to fill six spots.

Qualifying were 2009 visually impaired national champion Ron Hawthorne in the 60kg, Dartanyon Crockett (pictured above, left) in the 90kg and Myles Porter, a former wrestler and Beijing 2008 competitor, who will compete in the 100kg category this summer.

Jordan Mouton (pictured below, in blue), the women's 2009 visually impaired national champion, will also be going to her second Games in the 57kg category and is joined by Christella Garcia in the 70kg and Katie Davis in the +70kg.

USA Paralympic judo head coach Scott Moore said: "We are looking forward to training hard and bringing home medals for the US.

"This is the largest team the US has fielded for the Paralympics since 2000, and it is the first time we have qualified more than one weight for the women.

"We have several strong medal contenders and we are looking forward to a great Games."

His sentiments were echoed by USA Judo's director of high performance and an Olympic bronze medallist, Eddie Liddie, who said: "I think we qualified a strong team that can come up with a combination of medals.

"I think we're going to get some great results.

"I'm really excited about this team."

Moore will be joined in London by assistant coach Heidi Moore and team leader Marc Vink.

The US will hope to improve on the one bronze medal they picked up in Beijing four years' ago, when the judo gets underway at the ExCeL Centre on the Olympic Park from August 30 until September 1.
