Dutchwoman Vergeer (pictured) beat compatriot Aniek van Koot in three sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.

It was the first time the pair had gone to a third-set decider in 22 career meetings after van Koot had rallied in the second.

Frenchman Houdet (pictured below) took the men's singles crown – his fourth Pensacola Open title in five years –after beating world number one Maikel Scheffers, adding to his victory at the Cajun Classic last week.

His triumph was only the third this year against Dutchman Scheffers, who was never in the contest and bowed out 6-3, 6-1.

In the quad competition Israel's Gershony celebrated after beating Peter Norfolk in a close-fought contest despite losing the opening set.

Norfolk, the defending champion and world number one, took the first set 6-4 but Gershony fought back to claim the second 6-2 and edge out Norfolk in a tense final set, 7-5 – only his second victory over the Briton during his career.


France's Michael Jeremiasz and Britain's Gordon Reid bagged their maiden men's doubles title together by defeating Dutch third seeds Tom Egberink and Scheffers 6-4, 6-1.

The all-conquering Dutch duo of Vergeer and Sharon Walraven was left stunned in the final of the women's doubles by compatriots Jiske Griffioen and Van Koot.

The pair won all four grand slam titles last year but lost to Griffioen and Van Koot in the 2011 Florida Open.

Having taken a hard-fought first set 7-6, Griffioen and Van Koot lost the second 6-3 before rallying to clinch the decider by the same score.

The quad doubles crown was won by Americans Nick Taylor and David Wagner who defeated Britain's Jamie Burdekin and Norfolk 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.
