Construction work on High Performance Centre in Peru is set to be completed by October ©POCWork on Peru's High Performance Centre (CAR) is progressing in the established time frame and will be completed by October, according to the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP).

The centre is located in the east wing of the National Sports Village in the capital Lima, and is one of the main sports venues in Peru.

Boza Dibos, President of the Peruvian Institute of Sport, Francisco, was joined by the President of the COP, José Quiñones, and the national director of sport affiliate, Akio Tamashiro, in a visit to the centre.

The group used the visit to check on the progress of the centre, eight months after initial construction got underway.

The PEN162 million (£34.3 million/$57.7 million/€43.2 million) is an important infrastructure project for Peru as it will accommodate the athletes who have qualified for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019.

The centre is being funded by the Peruvian Institute of Sport and expected to be completed by late October.

Construction work is being carried out by COSAPI construction with Dibos hoping the early completion of the centre will allow for extra training for the nation's athletes.

Work is currently underway on four of the centre's buildings, named Sports 1, Sports 2, Sports Residence and the Velodrome.

Once all construction work is complete the centre will accommodate athletes from 23 sports, including, gymnastics, shooting, badminton, karate, judo, wrestling and taekwondo.
