Team Fiji are seeking sponsors for upcoming major events ©FASANOCFiji has launched a search for sponsors to help support its preparations for this year's Pacific Games and the Commonwealth Youth Games, as well as the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has issued an expression of interest for corporate sponsorship and merchandising for the events.

Fiji are the third most successful country in the history of the Pacific Games, which was first held in 1963, having won a total of 1,240 medals, including 386 gold.

At the last Games, four years ago, in Nouméa, New Caledonia, they were fourth overall with 130 medals, 33 of them gold.

This year's event, due to be held in Port Moresby between July 4 and 18, is likely to be of a higher standard, however, as Australia and New Zealand will be competing in some events for the first time.

Fiji are also eligible to take part in the Commonwealth Youth Games again, due to take place in Samoa between September 5 and 12, after their Commonwealth ban was lifted last year in time for them to compete at Glasgow 2014.

Fiji made its Olympic debut at Melbourne in 1956 and have competed at every Games since, with the exception of Moscow 1980, when they joined the American-led boycott.

They are still waiting to win their first medal but hopes are high that they will finally achieve that at Rio 2016 when rugby sevens makes its debut on the Olympic programme.

Fiji has twice won the World Cup, in 1997 and 2005, and finished third at the last tournament in Moscow two years ago.

"There are also in-country events and activities that corporate sponsors and merchandising partners will be able to explore for brand positioning and media mileage opportunities," said Lorraine Mar, the chief executive of FASANOC.

"Corporate sponsorship and merchandising partnerships will enhance Teams Fiji's success at these international events."
