A number of key meetings are planned for the Oceania National Olympic Committees General Assembly this week ©ONOCApril 30 - The annual General Assembly of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) is underway in Guam, with a packed schedule of meetings planned.

Workshops and meetings begin today, with the General Assembly itself on May 3.

On the agenda will be updates from the Organising Committees of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics and the Rio 2016 Olympics.

A number of reports and presentations on the work of ONOC and its Commissions over the last year will be given, and delegates will elect a new member to the Executive board.

That person will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Ken Tupua from American Samoa.

"We look forward to this meeting," said ONOC President Robin Mitchell.

"It's a good time to review what we've done and see what we need to do, and we still need to do a lot of work because most of our island athletes are not qualifying on merit for the Olympic Games, and for us that's a concern."

Ahead of the General Assembly will be meetings including the Oceania Regional Forum on Good Governance, which will be presented by the International Olympic Committee, and a presentation on Olympic solidarity programmes in the region.

The General Assembly of the Organisation of Sports Federations in Oceania will be held on May 2.

Mitchell said one meeting this week will include a discussion on possibly including Australia and New Zealand as participants for future Pacific Games.

More than 150 delegates from the 17 member nations of the ONOC are expected at LeoPalace, a resort on the Pacific island.
