Kenya will enter athletes in 20 of the 21 disciplines at the Games with football the only sport where there will be no Kenyan representation.

National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) treasurer Fridah Shiroya, who is also the team's Chef de Mission, revealed the team will now head to a pre-Games training camp at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium in capital Nairobi from May 3 to 17.

"We are through with accreditation and everything is completed," Shiroya said.

"We only urge the respective federations to work with us to make this a success.

"We really depend on our youth and we must encourage them to participate because this year's event is very important since it will be used for the qualifications for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games that will take place in August, in Nanjing, China."

Athletic Kenya (AK) will have the biggest contingent of 30 participants that will depart for Gaborone on May 18 for the Games which are due to take place from May 22 to 31.

This will be the second edition of the Africa Youth Games following the inaugural event in Rabat, Morocco, in 2010.

Of the 20 sports federations affiliated to NOCK, Shiroya revealed that the Kenya Judo Association and Kenya Taekwondo Association will not be receiving their share of the funding pot due to ongoing leadership disputes in both organisations.

"Every year we usually give something small to our affiliates to run their offices irrespective of whether there is a competition or not," he said.

"But when it comes to the Games, we have an understanding with the Government where the federations bring their budgets that we forward to the Ministry of Sports to allocate them funds for training and exposure."

Each federation will receive KES130,000 (£904/$1,500/€1,100) while extra funds have been allocated to the Boxing Association of Kenya which will receive KES855,360 (£6,000/$9,900/€7,200) to help fund a coach training programme next month.

NOCK also announced that the Kenyan team for this year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will enter a residential training camp at Safaricom Kasarani Stadium from June 16 before they depart in three batches.

The first group of athletes will travel to Scotland on July 12, the second on July 15 while the final group will arrive in Glasgow on July 20.
