Ireland's Patrick Hickey will also serve another term as senior vice-president.

Sheikh Ahmad claimed launching the World Beach Games in association with SportAccord would be a key target for him during his new four-year mandate.

Both he and Hickey were unopposed for their positions and were selected via a show of applause in elections conducted by Julio Maglione, vice-president of ANOC for the Americas.

They will each serve fresh four-year terms, meaning the leadership of the organisation will remain unchanged until 2018.

The two had originally been elected at the ANOC General Assembly in Moscow in 2012, when Sheikh Ahmed completed the rest of Mario Vázquez Raña's term after the Mexican had stepped down.

The Kuwait thanked the Assembly, consisting of representatives from 203 of the 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), for the show of confidence before highlighting his aims for his next term.

Only the US Virgin Islands were not not due to the fact their representative being ill.

"When I was elected as interim President in 2012 I made my objectives very clear," said Sheikh Ahmad.

"I wanted to reform, modernise and professionalise our organisation to offer the best possible support to the NOCs.

"We have come a very long way but there is always more that we can do.

"I hope that over the next four years we will be able to work together with all Olympic stakeholders to achieve the dreams and the goals of your organisations."

As well as the ANOC Gala Awards ceremony, taking place for the first time here this evening, and the new headquarters building in Lausanne, this particularly included the first World Beach Games, set to be held for the first time in 2017.

No details on precise timing or locations were put forward, but the Assembly decided, again by a unanimous round of applause, to go ahead with the plans.

More information will now be revealed at next year's General Assembly in Washington D.C., Sheikh Ahmad promised.
