Kia Motors has been named the official sponsor of the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju ©Gwangju 2015April 15 - Korean motor vehicle manufacturer Kia Motors has been named an official sponsor of the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea.

The announcement comes after the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kia Motors and the Gwangju 2015 Organising Committee today.

The agreement sees Kia ranked Global Premium Partner, the highest rank in partnership, with the company promising to provide 1,500 vehicles, including passenger vans, eco-friendly electric cars, buses, and other types of vehicles, for the transportation and protocol of the 20,000 participants from 170 countries that will be taking part in the Gwangju Summer Universiade.

In addition, Kia will also contribute to the promotion of the Gwangju Universiade through television, magazine and online advertisements.

"Preparations for the Gwangju Universiade has gained much strength by receiving support from Gwangju's top-rated corporation, Kia Motors," said Kang Un-tae, chairman of the Gwangju 2015 Organising Committee.

"As the Universiade is the only multi-sporting event that has the participation of future young leaders, it will also provide an excellent marketing opportunity for Kia, a global leader in the automotive industry."

As a Global Premium Partner, Kia is given the rights to use the title as the official sponsor of the Gwangju Universiade, as well as use the official Gwangju Universiade logo, advertise on the players' uniforms and advertise on A-boards in competition venues.

In return, Kia will utilise the Gwangju Universiade in national and international marketing.

"As the official automobile sponsor for the Gwangju Universiade, we will provide all the needed support for a successful Games," said Lee Sam-ung, President of Kia Motors.

The 2015 Gwangju University will take place from July 3 to 14.
