Ledecka crossed the line just six hundredths of a second in front of nearest challenger, Switzerland's Julie Zogg, to seal her second win of the season, before she then beat Sobolev in the first-ever super final between the winners of the men's and women's race, adding a further €1,500 (£1,000/$1,700) to her prize fund.

"It was amazing," Ledecka said,

"The first runs were a bit difficult but when the sun came out and the clouds disappeared it got better and better.

"It was a perfect day."

The result handed Austria's Marion Kreiner the overall parallel giant slalom title as she now has an unassailable lead at the top of the leaderboard on 2,600 points thanks to her third-placed finish.

"I'm very happy about finishing in third position and winning the crystal globe," Kreiner said.

"Now, I will focus on the overall standings."

The men's event also proved historic as Sobolev edged out compatriot Vic Wild to clinch his maiden World Cup success, and, despite finishing behind his Russian teammate, Wild dethroned Zan Kosir of Slovenia at the top of the leaderboard.

Wild has a lead of 120 points over Kosir, who took third in today's race, with just one more event to go this season in Japan.

"It was a wonderful race!" Sobolev said.

"I cannot say much.

"I'm overwhelmed by my first win."

The two winners then did battle in the super final, which added yet more entertainment to what had already been an exciting day of action.

Ledecka emerged victorious as she capitalised on being able to choose which course side she raced down and she says she enjoyed competing against Sobolev.

"I never did anything like this before," she added.

"It was fun for sure.

"I think it's really interesting to have some new things at FIS races."
